Steps:

10 4-amino-6-chloro-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine-5-carbaldehyde (1e)

A mixture of 4,6-dichloro-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine-5-carbaldehyde (1.5 g, 6.7 mmol), NH4OH (6.0 mL) and DCM (20 mL) was stirred at rt for 3 h. The mixture was then washed with brine (50 mL x 2), dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated to afford desired product 1e as a white solid (1.3 g, yield 90%). LCMS (m/z): 203.9 [M + H] ⁺.
