Steps:

A typical procedure for the one-pot conversion of aldehydes to amides
General procedure: A mixture of aldehyde (1.0 mmol) and hydroxylamine (1.0 mmol) in water (5.0mL) was prepared. The ensuing mixture and 0.1 mol% of Ru-complexes (5 or 9) were taken in a reaction vessel and sonicated at 60 oC for the appropriate time. Theprogress of the reaction was monitored by TLC analysis. After completion of thereaction, the reaction was cooled to room temperature and the solvent wasevaporated. The residue was suspended in ethyl acetate, filtered to remove thecatalyst and the solvent evaporated to obtain the desired product. The identity ofthe obtained amides was assessed by comparison of their NMR spectroscopic datawith those reported in the literature.
