Steps:
(S)-1-Phenethylpiperidin-3-amine dihydrochloride (Intermediate 2):
General procedure: A 200 mL round bottom flask was charged with (S)-tert-butyl 1-phenethylpiperidin-3-ylcarbamate (Intermediate 1; 388 mg, 1.27 mmol). 4 N HCl/dioxane (5.0 mL) was added, and the resulting solution was allowed to stir at room temperature. After 1 hour, the reaction was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in MeOH and the solution was reconcentrated. The resulting material was used directly without further purification.
