White crystalline powder, odorless, insoluble in water and ethanol, decomposes in nitric acid and hydrochloric acid solutions, completely decomposes in oxalic acid solution, insoluble in sulfuric acid, but when heated with dilute sulfuric acid, most of the calcium iodate is converted into calcium sulfate and iodic acid.
