Tert-butyl 4-(4-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl)piperidine-1-carboxylate (1.73 g, 5 mmol) was used as raw material and dissolved in methanol (15 mL). To this solution was added saturated HCl/MeOH solution (15 mL) and the reaction was stirred for 3 hours at room temperature. Upon completion of the reaction, the solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was washed with ether to give 4-(4-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl)piperidine hydrochloride (1.4 g, 100% yield) as a white solid. Mass spectrometric (ESI/LR) analysis showed [M+1]+ m/z 246.1.
