General procedure for the synthesis of potassium 2-methoxy-2-oxoacetate from dimethyl oxalate: 1.2 g of dimethyl oxalate and 0.98 g of potassium acetate were dissolved in a mixed solvent of 10 mL of methanol and 10 mL of water. The reaction mixture was stirred at 80 °C for 3 hours. After completion of the reaction, the solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure. A white solid product was obtained in quantitative yield. | [References]
