Sutilains (Travase) is a proteolyticenzyme obtained from cultures of Bacillus subtilis and usedto dissolve necrotic tissue occurring in second- and thirddegreeburns as well as bed sores and ulcerated wounds. Many substances are contraindicated during the topicaluse of sutilains. These include detergents and anti-infectivesthat denature the enzyme preparation. The antibioticspenicillin, streptomycin, and neomycin do not inactivatesutilains. Mafenide acetate is also compatible with theenzyme. |
