Pheanthine (Compound 2) is an antiplasmodial agent, that inhibits chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum K-1 (IC50 is 0.8 μM) and chloroquine-sensitive P. falciparum strain NF54 A19A (IC50 of 0.03 μM). Pheanthine exhibits low cytotoxicity in human lung fibrosblast (MRC-5, IC50 is 11.2 μM) and macrophages (PMM, IC50 is 8 μM)[1]. | [References]
