[Preparation] Preparation by saponification of 1-(4-acetoxyphenyl)- 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)ethanone (SM) with potassium hydroxide in ethanol for 3 h at temperature <30° under nitrogen (90%). SM was obtained by alkylation of sodium 2-methoxyphenoxide with p-acetoxy-abromo-acetophenone (Williamson synthesis) (96%, m.p. 67°5–68°5).
