Procedure for the synthesis of 4-(2-fluorophenyl)butyric acid (31): 1.79 g of 2-(4-methylbutanoic acid)fluorobenzene (cas:911825-55-3) was added to a round-bottomed flask, which was dissolved in 17 mL of methanol. To this solution was added 1 g of aqueous sodium hydroxide. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 20 hours. After the reaction was completed, the solvent was removed by evaporation and the crude product was diluted with 15 mL of 0.5 M hydrochloric acid. It was extracted three times with dichloromethane, the organic phases were combined, dried and concentrated to give 1.17 g (92% yield) of the target product 4-(2-fluorophenyl)butyric acid (31). | [References]
