Sarafotoxin S6d (STX-b) is a polypeptide toxin isolated from the venom of the Israeli sand boa constrictor. Sarafotoxin S6d induces multiple electrocardiogram (ECG) changes including myocardial ischemia and hyperkalemia. Sarafotoxin S6d induces strong extracellular calcium-dependent vasoconstriction in rat aorta and exhibits positive inotropic effects in rat atria. Sarafotoxin S6d can be used in the study of cardiovascular diseases[1]. | [in vivo]
Sarafotoxin S6d (0.3, 1.0, 3.0 and 5.0 nmol/kg; i.v.) can produce a constant pressure effect and a short pulse pressure increase at 0.3-3.0 nmol/kg. However, at 5.0 nmol/kg, Sarafotoxin S6d can cause a rapid drop in blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing rate after an initial increase, leading to the deaths of most mice within 10 minutes[1].
Sarafotoxin S6d (5.0 nmol/kg; i.v.) increases K+ levels by 159% significantly. Additionally, plasma enzymes (LDH, CPK), IP, and glucose levels are also significantly elevated. LDH increases by 60%, CPK by 91%, IP by 137%, and glucose by 80%[1].
