The commercial production process for dipropalin is not available in open literature. However, based on its structure commercial manufacture would have probably followed the same general route used for other dinitroaniline herbicides: preparation of a p toluidine–type aromatic precursor, controlled nitration to introduce the 2,6 dinitro pattern, and subsequent N alkylation to install the dipropylamino substituent, followed by purification to technical grade | [Mechanism of action]
