Palmitoyl carnitine activates the Ca2+ release channel of skeletal muscle sarcoplasmic reticulum. Elevated levels of palmitoyl L-carnitine due to palmitoyl transferase II deficiency causes autosomal recessive disorder of energy metabolismwhich primarily affects skeletal muscle. |
