Clacfos is an organophosphate herbicide. Little data has been published regarding its environmental fate, ecotoxicity or its impact on human health. | [Production Methods]
The commercial manufacture of clacyfos follows the same broad pattern used for other dialkyl phosphorothioates. Production typically involves first preparing the O alkyl phosphorochloridothioate intermediate, typically by reacting phosphorus trichloride with sulphur and the chosen alcohol under controlled, anhydrous conditions. This reactive chloridothioate is then coupled with the appropriate heteroaromatic oxime or phenolic precursor to form the final phosphorothioate ester. The crude product is purified by neutralisation, phase separation, and vacuum stripping to remove residual solvents and by products, yielding technical grade clacyfos suitable for formulation. | [Mechanism of action]
