GENERAL STEPS: A suspension of (5-methoxy-1H-indol-2-yl)methanol (1 mmol) and activated MnO2 (10 mmol) in DMF (30 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 12 hours. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was filtered through a diatomaceous earth pad. The filtrate was concentrated under vacuum and the residue was purified by column chromatography using a solvent mixture of EtOAc-hexane as eluent to give 5-methoxy-1H-indole-2-carbaldehyde. | [References]
