2(3H)-Benzothiazolethione,6-methoxy-(9CI) is a synthetic organic compound which is used as a reagent in organic synthesis.
| [Synthesis]
To a reaction flask was added 4,4'-dimethoxy-2,2'-dithiobisbenzenamine (123.11 mg, 0.411 mmol) and NaHS (11.2 mg, 0.2 mmol), followed by the addition of 2.5 mL of H2O as reaction solvent. Carbon disulfide (97 μL, 1.6 mmol) was then injected and the reaction mixture was stirred at 80 °C for 4 hours. After the completion of the reaction was confirmed by thin layer chromatography (TLC) analysis, the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature. Extraction was carried out with ethyl acetate and the crude product was obtained by combining the organic phases and concentrating under reduced pressure. The crude product was purified by silica gel column chromatography (200-300 mesh) with gradient elution using dichloromethane as eluent to afford 6-methoxy-2-mercaptobenzothiazole white powder (158 mg, 83.8% yield). The purity of the product was more than 99%, and the melting point was 203-204°C. The product was purified by using dichloromethane as the eluent. | [References]
