General procedure for the synthesis of 1,3-diaminoadamantane dihydrochloride from 1,3-bis(acetylamino)adamantane: A mixture of 1 g of 1,3-bis(acetylamino)adamantane, 28 mL of water, and 2 mL of 36% hydrochloric acid was heated and refluxed for 25 hours, followed by evaporation of the reaction solution to dryness. By treating the residue, 1,3-diaminoadamantane dihydrochloride was obtained. | [Purification Methods]
Dissolve it in boiling conc HCl (400mg in 15mL) and evaporate to dryness. Dissolve it in absolute EtOH and add dry Et2O to crystallise the dihydrochloride. [Stetter & Wulff Chem Ber 93 1366 1960, Beilstein 13 III 27,] | [References]
