Bis(diisopropylamino)aluminum Hydride is easily prepared by the addition of i-Pr2NH to AlH3 (from reaction of 100% H2SO4 with LiAlH4) in THF in a 2:1 molar ratio. H2 is evolved during the addition. Reaction is complete after 3 h. Highly pure reagent can be made by the reaction of Al metal and i-Pr2NH (1:2 molar ratio) in benzene at 140 °C under 2000 psi H2 pressure.
