ChEBI: Mecarphon is a dicarboximide. | [Production Methods]
Open literature does not disclose a step by step manufacturing route for mecarphon. Its structure, however, is well established as a phosphonothioate insecticide/nematicide, which allows its industrial synthesis to be inferred from standard organophosphorus chemistry. Commercial production would have centred on assembling the methylphosphonodithioate core from a reactive phosphorus halide precursor, followed by thioester formation and carbamoylation to introduce the methylcarbamate fragment that defines the molecule’s biological activity. These steps require strictly anhydrous, temperature controlled conditions to manage the high reactivity of its phosphorusl bonds and to maintain selectivity. Final purification, typically via controlled distillation or crystallisation, would yield technical grade mecarphon for formulation. | [Mechanism of action]
