Dark blue-black powder. Insoluble in water, soluble in pyridine, tetralin, and xylene. In a mixture of sulfuric acid and boric acid, it appears bright bluish-green, then turns blue. In concentrated sulfuric acid, it appears brownish-red, then turns green, then yellowish-green, and forms a purple precipitate upon dilution. In an alkaline solution of hydrosulfite, it appears reddish-brown; in an acidic solution, it appears dark reddish-purple. | [Preparation]
