General procedure for the synthesis of (S)-4-methylpyrrolidin-2-one from DL-3-methyl-Γ-butyrolactone:
(1) 4-methyl-2-oxotetrahydrofuran (10 g, 3.2 mol) and liquid ammonia (13 g, 4.3 mol) were added in a high-pressure reactor, and the reactor was sealed after cooling. The reactor was pressurized to 3 MPa and heated to 220 °C with continuous stirring. Upon completion of the reaction, stirring was stopped and the reaction mixture was allowed to cool naturally to room temperature, followed by depressurization. (S)-4-methyl-2-oxopyrrolidine (19.87 g, 4.2 mol) was finally obtained. | [References]
