Orange powder. Highly water-soluble, its aqueous solution is golden yellow. It is slightly soluble in ethanol but insoluble in other organic solvents. Adding concentrated hydrochloric acid to the aqueous solution produces a purple precipitate; adding concentrated alkali produces a golden-orange precipitate. In concentrated sulfuric acid, it turns magenta, tinged with greenish light and a blue precipitate upon dilution. In concentrated nitric acid, it produces a purple solution. Insensitive to hard water. The color remains essentially unchanged when exposed to copper and iron ions during dyeing. | [Uses]
