Phenol, copper(1+) salt (1:1) can be used as a phenoxylating agent for organic halides, organic sulfur compounds and carbon tetrachloride; oxygen breaks carbon-carbon bonds. | [Preparation]
Cuprous chloride and alkali metal phenoxides undergo metathesis in MeCN or THF to produce solutions of CuI phenoxides complexed with alkali metal chlorides, which can be used for synthetic purposes. CuI phenoxides without alkali metal chlorides can be prepared by the phenololysis of methylcopper, phenylcopper, and copper(I) tert-butylate or by the metathesis of [Cu(MeCN)4]PF6 with sodium phenolate. | [storage]
Oxygen- and moisture-sensitive; preparation and reaction should be conducted under rigorously oxygen-free and anhydrous conditions. |
