D-ribo-Phytosphingosine has been used to determine its ability to rescue the growth defect of the PFA4 deletion strain (pfa4Δ) in response to myriocin. It has also been used to capture phosphatidylinositol bisphosphate (PI(4,5)P2), phosphatidylinositol triphosphate (PI(3,4,5)P3), phosphatidyl serine (PS) and phosphatidyl choline (PC) liposomes on a carboxymethyl dextran chip (CMDHchip). It may be used for the preparation of lipids.
[Definition]

ChEBI: Phytosphingosine is a sphingoid, an amino alcohol and a triol. It has a role as a Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolite and a mouse metabolite. It is functionally related to a N-acyl-beta-D-galactosylphytosphingosine and a sphinganine. It is a conjugate base of a phytosphingosine(1+).

In vitro studies using human epidermis model shows th at melanin production is prevented by phytosphingosine. Henceit is widely used in cosmetics.''Phytosphingosine (PHS) is a sphingoid lipid molecule which is known to exhibit antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory action. PHS can has the ability to increase the production of keratinocyte differentiation marker proteinssuch as transglutaminase 1 and involucrinth at are responsible for the development of cornifed envelope. PHS metabolism results in the formation of glycerophospholipidssphingolipids and even-numbered fatty acids which mainly include palmitic acid.
