[Description]

A hepatotoxic alkaloid from Senecio othonnae M. B., this base is obtained as colourless crystals from MeOH. The alkaloid is dextrorotatory having [α] 20 D + 73° (c 2.5, CHC13). The 12-acetate is identical with Floridanine (q.v.) and the 12: l8-diacetate is Floricaline (q.v.). The flavianate forms colourless crystals from EtOH, m.p. 238-2400 C. The structure has been established from the hydrolysis products, e.g. hydrootonecine and an acid, ClOH1S0 7 , m.p. 142-3°C.

Onetine is a Alkaloids product that can be isolated from the herbs of Senecio othonnae[1].
