General procedure for the synthesis of 3-amino-5-bromo-2-nitropyridine from ethyl (5-bromo-2-nitropyridin-3-yl)carbamate: to a solution of ethyl (5-bromo-2-nitropyridin-3-yl)carbamate (1.5 g, 5.2 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (10 ml) was added a solution of potassium hydroxide (582 mg, 10.4 mmol) in water (5.0 ml) solution and the reaction mixture was stirred at 90°C overnight. After completion of the reaction, water was added to the mixture and precipitate was precipitated, the precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with water and then dried under reduced pressure to give 3-amino-5-bromo-2-nitropyridine (1.1 g, 95% yield).
