General procedure for the synthesis of furo[2,3-c]pyridin-5-ylmethanol from the compound (CAS: 478148-59-3): C14 (770 mg, 3.48 mmol) was dissolved in 10 mL of methanol. A 2 N sodium hydroxide solution (3 mL, 6 mmol) was added to the solution and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1.5 hours. After completion of the reaction, the solution was concentrated to dryness under vacuum. Water (20 mL) was added to the residue and extracted with dichloromethane (4 x 10 mL). The organic layers were combined, dried with anhydrous potassium carbonate, filtered, and concentrated under vacuum to give furo[2,3-c]pyridin-5-ylmethanol (C16) as a white solid in 90% yield.
