[Uses]

Methyl everninate is the major constituent of the deuterochloroform. Methyl everninate, rhodomollosides A and B are the derivatives of Methyl everninate, with cytotoxicity against RAW264.7 cells. Both of they shows inhibitory effects with a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated murine macrophages RAW 264.7 cells model[1][2].
[Definition]

ChEBI: 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-6-methylbenzoic acid methyl ester is a methoxybenzoic acid.
[Production Methods]

Everninate methyl can be produced:
1) by Methylesterification of Eveminic acid. This esterification takes place to a measurable degree when Oakmoss is extracted with Methyl alcohol. Eveminic acid is also a product of alkaline hydrolysis of Evemic acid which occurs naturally in Oakmoss. Evemic acid can be synthesized via Evemic aldehyde. This aldehyde is considered as an important odor factor of Oakmoss.
2) from Methylorsellinate plus Diazomethane.
