White crystals. Melting point: 168-169°C, decomposes at 225°C. Soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, and dilute sulfuric acid. Its sodium salt is commonly known as sodium sulfonate, C????H????I??N??NaO??, Sodium ipodete, Ipodate sodium, or Biloptin, Oragrafin sodium. Its sodium salt appears as white, leaf-shaped crystals.
