General procedure for the synthesis of 2-amino-4-methylphenylethyl ether from 4-ethoxy-3-nitrotoluene: A suspension formed by 1-ethoxy-4-methyl-2-nitrobenzene (2.71 g) with 10% palladium-carbon catalyst (0.27 g) in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (40 mL) was stirred at room temperature. After 25.5 hours of reaction in a hydrogen atmosphere, the reaction mixture was filtered through cellulose powder. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure and dried to give 2.26 g of 2-amino-4-methylphenylethyl ether as a dark brown solid in 100% yield. | [References]
