Purify 2-deoxy-D-allose by two recrystallisations from absolute EtOH. The p-nitrophenylhydrazone has m 61-62o, [] D -55o (MeOH). An equilibrium solution at 31o in D2O contains 15% -pyranose, 58% -pyranose, 12% -furanose and 15% -furanose forms as estimated by 1HNMR spectroscopy.
