Mecoprop-P-dimethylammonium is produced through the same neutralisation-based industrial pathway used for other amine-salt forms of phenoxy herbicides, but with the added requirement of preserving the optical purity of the (R)-mecoprop-P acid. Production begins with preparation of the enantiomerically enriched mecoprop-P acid, obtained either by asymmetric synthesis or by resolution of racemic mecoprop. The purified chiral acid is then dissolved or slurried in water and reacted with aqueous dimethylamine under controlled pH and temperature, ensuring complete salt formation while preventing racemisation or unwanted side reactions. Once neutralisation reaches the target stoichiometry, the resulting aqueous mecoprop-P-dimethylammonium solution is filtered to remove any insoluble residues, adjusted for active-ingredient concentration, and standardised for pH and density. | [Mechanism of action]
Selective, systemic, absorbed through leaves and translocated to roots. Synthetic auxin. | [Pesticide Type]
