To 2-hydrazinopyridine (3.00 g, 27.5 mmol) and ethoxymethylene malononitrile (3.37 g, 27.5 mmol) in 50 mL of ethanol, triethylamine (3.8 mL, 27.5 mmol) was added. The reaction mixture was heated to reflux for about 3.5 hours. After completion of the reaction, it was cooled to room temperature and the precipitated solid was collected to afford the white solid product 5-amino-1-(2-pyridyl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carbonitrile (4.33 g, 85% yield). The product was characterized by 1H NMR (DMSO-d6): δ 8.46 (dd, 1H), 8.11 (brs, 2H), 8.01 (m, 1H), 7.88 (s, 1H), 7.84 (d, 1H), 7.35 (m, 1H) ppm. | [References]
