1,2-bis(allyloxy)ethane is polymerized oxidatively with cobalt acetate and air in methanol solution soaked on the surface of filter paper. The resulting polymeric product confers a high degree of hydrophilicity to the filter paper.

1,2-bis(allyloxy)ethane has an oral LD50 in rats of 1020 mg/kg. Exposure to it for 24 h causes severe irritation of the skin (500 mg) and eyes (250 mg) of rabbits.
