[Description]

Chloretazate potassium is an obsolete herbicide for turf. Little data is available regarding its environmental fate, ecotoxicology or impacts on human health.
[Definition]

ChEBI: A potassium salt resulting from the reaction of equimolar amounts of karetazan and potassium hydroxide. It is used as a chemical hybridisation agent for commercial hybrid seed production. It is not approved for use within the European Union.
[Production Methods]

Chloretazate potassium is produced by first synthesising and purifying technical-grade chloretazate, an aryloxyacetic herbicide built through the conventional route in which the substituted phenoxy fragment is coupled with the appropriate chloroacetate precursor to yield the free acid. Once the acid meets specification, it is converted into the potassium salt through controlled neutralisation with potassium hydroxide in aqueous or mixed-solvent media, forming a stable, water-soluble salt suitable for agricultural formulations.
[Pesticide Type]

Herbicide; Plant Growth Regulator
