The general procedure for the synthesis of 3-hydroxy-3-methylpyrrolidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester from 3-hydroxy-3-methylpyrrolidine-1-carboxylic acid is as follows: tert-butyl 3-hydroxy-3-methylpyrrolidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (0.027 g, 0.13 mmol) was added to a solution of 4N HCl/dioxane (1 ml), and the reaction mixture was stirred for 2 hours at room temperature. After completion of the reaction, the solution was concentrated under reduced pressure to remove the solvent. The concentrated residue was diluted with toluene (1 ml) and concentrated again under reduced pressure to finally obtain 3-hydroxy-3-methylpyrrolidine hydrochloride as a colorless oil (0.018 g, 100% yield). | [References]
