Step A: Synthesis of (S)-3-amino-1-methylpiperidin-2-one hydrochloride: tert-butyl (S)-1-methyl-2-oxopiperidin-3-ylcarbamate (prepared according to Example 12; 78 mg, 0.34 mmol) was dissolved in a 4 M dioxane solution of hydrogen chloride (1.7 mL, 6.8 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the solvent was removed by concentration under reduced pressure to give (S)-3-amino-1-methylpiperidin-2-one hydrochloride.
