General procedure for the synthesis of 2-amino-3-nitrobenzaldehyde from (2-amino-3-nitrophenyl)methanol: Synthesis of 6,7-didehydro-17-methyl-8'-nitroquinolo[2',3':6,7]morphinan-3,14β-diol hydrochloride (SYK-349) from compound 29d with reference to the procedure used for the preparation of SYK-27. The product is a brown amorphous solid with 98% yield and a melting point of 255-262°C (decomposition). Elemental analysis (C24H23N3O4-1.5HCl-0.5H2O) Calculated values: C, 59.91; H, 5.34; N, 8.73.
