7-Hydroxy-1-naphthoic acid [2623-37-2], mp 256℃, is synthesized by hydrolysis (50 % KOH) of 8-cyano-2-naphthol (from 8-amino-2- naphthol and cyano-Sandmeyer reaction). It couples in the 8-position with diazo compounds.
