Uses

(3S,5S)-6-Cyano-3,5-dihydroxyhexanoic Acid 1,1-Dimethylethyl Ester is an intermediate used in the synthesis of (3S,5S)-Atorvastatin Sodium Salt (A791735), which is a selective, competitive HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor. The only drug in its class specfically indicated for lowering both elevated LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides in patients with hypercholesterolemia.
