Preparation

Obtained by treatment of 3,3′,4,4′-tetrahydroxybenzil dihydrate (m.p. 125–130°) with granulated tin in dilute hydrochloric acid. The mixture was heated on a steam bath 1.5 h (49%) (compound VIII).
