heregulin gene by alternative splicing and/or usage of different promoters. NRG1 isoform SMDF is a type III isoform with a C-terminal EGF-like domain that interacts with the erbB family of tyrosine kinase receptors. NRG1 isoform SMDF expression has been found to be restricted to the nervous system and is believed to play an important role in the development of the nervous system.
