Biochem/physiol Actions
The gene GABBR2 (γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) B receptor, 2) encodes a G-protein coupled receptor 3 that belongs to the GABA-B receptor subfamily. It forms a heterodimer with GABBR1 to produce an active complex called the GABAB receptor. The complex binds to GABA, a major inhibitory neurotransmitter, and mediates its modulatory actions. It negatively regulates neuronal activity via the activation of G-protein-coupled second-messenger systems that are involved in the regulation of the release of neurotransmitters. Polymorphism in this gene is associated with susceptibility to nicotine dependence.
