Use

Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) is made by the transesterificationof dimethyl terephthalate with butanediolthrough a catalyzed melt polycondensation.These molding and extrusion resins havegood resistance to chemicals, low moistureabsorption, relatively high continuous-use temperature,and good electrical properties (trackresistance and dielectric strength). PBT resin issensitive to alkalies, oxidizing acids, aromatics,and strong bases. Various additives, fillers, andfiber reinforcements are used with PBT resins,in particular flame retardants, mineral fillers,and glass fibers. PBT resins and compounds areused extensively in automotive, electrical-electronic,appliance, military, communications,and consumer product applications.
