Description

Imidapril is a prodrug for the active metabolite imidaprilat, an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor that suppresses the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II (IC50 = 2.6 nM), thereby preventing vasoconstriction and decreasing aldosterone secretion by the adrenal cortex. In clinical trials, imidapril was effective at lowering plasma and tissue angiotensin II levels, resulting in peripheral vasodilation, reduced blood pressure, renoprotective effects in patients with type 1 diabetes, and decreased renal sodium and water retention.
