Description

Ondansetron is a potent carbazolic antagonist of the serotonin 5-HT3 receptor (Ki = 0.77 nM). It has little or no effect on other serotonin or monoamine receptors. Through its effects on 5-HT3, ondansetron induces contraction of guinea pig ileum (ED50 = 43 μM). It has significant oral bioavailability and is orally administered to minimize nausea and emesis in a variety of contexts.
