S-Methyl-L-cysteine is a substrate in the catalytic antioxidant system mediated by methionine sulfoxide reductase A (MSRA). SMLC is naturally present in garlic, cabbage, and turnips and has been studied as a therapeutic for neurodegenerative diseases.
