| Uses | Monoclonal Anti-MAP2 (2a+2b) antibody has been used in immunohistochemistry, immunostaining and western blotting. | | General Description | Myeloid cell surface antigen CD33 (cluster of differentiation 33), also known as SIGLEC3 (sialic acid binding Ig-like lectins) and GP67, belongs to the CD33-related SIGLEC gene family. It is a type 1 transmembrane protein and has two immunoglobulin-like extracellular domains, a single transmembrane area and two intracellular inhibitory motifs. The CD33 gene is located on human chromosome 19q13. | | Biochem/physiol Actions | Microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2) is majorly involved in maintaining cellular structural integrity, microtubule assembly and stability by interacting with the carboxy-terminal of tubulin and linking other cytoskeletal polymers to it. It acts like a molecular scaffold upon which cytoskeleton-modifying proteins assemble, interact and dissociate in response to neuronal activity. Many proteins like type II regulatory subunit of protein kinase A ( PKA), F-actin, calmodulin and the mitochondrial outer membrane protein porin have been shown to interact with MAP2. Tyrosine kinase FYN binds with and phosphorylates MAP2. This phosphorylation further helps in binding of the Src homology 2 (SH2) domain of growth factor receptor-bound protein 2 (GRB2) to MAP2. In this way, a number of signaling proteins are recruited by it for the pathways involved in central nervous system development. |
