1-CHLORO-1-PROPENE Usage And Synthesis
General DescriptionColorless liquid with disagreeable odor.
Air & Water ReactionsHighly flammable. Slightly soluble in water.
Reactivity Profile1-CHLORO-1-PROPENE is a halogenated unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon. The unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbons are generally much more reactive than the alkanes, which are saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons. Strong oxidizers may react vigorously with them. Reducing agents can react exothermically to release gaseous hydrogen. In the presence of various catalysts (such as acids) or initiators, compounds in this class can undergo very exothermic addition polymerization reactions.
Safety ProfileModerately toxic by ingestion. Very mildly toxic by skin contact and inhalation. A skin and eye irritant. Mutation data reported. Questionable carcinogen with experimental neoplastigenic data. Very dangerous fire hazard when exposed to heat, flames (sparks), or oxidzers. Explosive in the form of vapor when exposed to heat or flame. To fight fire, use alcohol foam, dry chemical, mist, spray, fog. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of Cl-.
