| Uses | Anti-Livin (C-terminal) antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunoblotting and immunoprecipitation. | | Biological Activity | Livin or baculoviral IAP repeat-containing 7 (BIRC7) inhibitory functionality is mediated by the baculovirus inhibitor of apoptosis proteins (IAP)repe at (BIR) domain. This domain is also essential for interaction with caspases. The really interesting new gene (RING) finger domain elicits E3-ubiquitin ligase activity in the absence of BIR domain. The two isoforms of livin have different antiapoptotic properties, with isoform protecting cells from apoptosis induced by staurosporine and isoform α protecting cells from apoptosis induced by etoposide. An elevated expression of Livin is detected in prostate, breast, colon, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. Inhibition of livin in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) leads to improved irradiation sensitivity in NPC cells. |
